Exercise 3 – Writing Adventure

INSTRUCTION

Read the story carefully.
Sequence the events, describe the setting, analyze a character, and create an imaginative ending.

Title: The Mystery of the Lost Treasure

Once upon a time, in a remote corner of the vast ocean, there was a small, uninhabited island known as Serenity Island. Legend had it that buried deep within the island’s dense jungle was a hidden treasure chest filled with gold coins and precious gems. Many brave adventurers had tried to find this treasure, but none had succeeded.

One sunny morning, Emma and Max, two siblings known for their daring spirit, decided to embark on an adventure to uncover the lost treasure of Serenity Island. Armed with a map they found in their grandfather’s attic and their trusty binoculars, they set sail on their grandfather’s old boat, the Sea Serpent.

As they approached the island, they encountered rough waves and strong winds that threatened to push them off course. Determined to reach their destination, Emma steered the boat skillfully while Max kept a lookout for any signs of the treasure.

After what felt like hours of sailing, they finally spotted the lush greenery of Serenity Island. They anchored the boat near a secluded beach and began their trek into the heart of the jungle. Along the way, they encountered exotic birds with vibrant feathers and mischievous monkeys swinging from tree to tree.

As the sun started to set, Emma and Max stumbled upon a series of ancient ruins hidden deep within the jungle. Excitedly, they searched every nook and cranny until Max discovered a small, intricately carved stone with a clue engraved on it. The clue led them to a towering waterfall where, behind the cascading water, they found the long-lost treasure chest shimmering in the dim light.

With hearts racing and smiles of triumph on their faces, Emma and Max unlocked the treasure chest and marveled at the sparkling jewels and gleaming gold coins inside. They knew that their adventurous spirit and teamwork had led them to discover the greatest treasure of all – the thrill of exploring the unknown.

After Reading the Story:

Sequence the Events: Write down the main events of the story in the correct order (number them from 1 to 5).
Describe the Setting: Describe Serenity Island and its jungle setting using descriptive words.
Character Analysis: Choose either Emma or Max. Describe what they did during the adventure and how they felt at different points in the story. Use details from the story to support your description.
Create an Ending: Write a short paragraph to conclude the adventure tale. Imagine what happens next after Emma and Max find the treasure. Be creative and think about how they might celebrate their discovery.
