Omni Corp, a prominent hackerspace in Detroit, operates on a not-for-profit basis and hosts open hack nights, encouraging community involvement. Mt. Elliot Makerspace, founded by Jeff Sturges, replicates MIT's Fab Lab model on a smaller scale, offering youth-based skill development programs. The maker movement, fuelled by open-source production and accessible technologies, is seen as the next Industrial Revolution with transformative potential for economic development models.
