🧄 Ingredients

  • 2 cups bottle gourd (peeled, chopped)
  • 1/4 cup grated coconut
  • 2 tbsp chana dal
  • 1 tbsp rice
  • 2 green chilies
  • 1 cup sour curd (yogurt)
  • Salt to taste
  • Water as needed
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 dry red chili
  • 1 sprig curry leaves
  • 1/4 tsp asafoetida
  • 1 tsp coconut oil

🍽️ Instructions

  1. Cook chopped bottle gourd in a saucepan with salt and little water until soft.
  2. Grind coconut, green chilies, soaked chana dal, and rice with water to a smooth paste.
  3. Add the ground paste to the cooked gourd and simmer for 5–7 minutes.
  4. Whisk curd to smooth, then lower heat and add to the curry. Mix well and heat without boiling.
  5. Prepare tempering with coconut oil, mustard seeds, red chili, curry leaves, and asafoetida. Add to the curry.
  6. Serve hot with steamed rice or millet-based sides.
